Conveyor Instruments
In association with Braime and Synatel, we can offer instrumentation for a range of Conveyor Monitoring Instruments. These are suitable for both belt conveyors and elevators. Most of these products are Atex approved for dusty areas (Class 2).
Speed Monitoring:
Underspeed Monitoring:
Underspeed monitors are designed for belt driven applications where slip is possible in the drive. Synatel’s concept is an underspeed monitor in a choice of packages, all of which share a common functional design with automatic calibration and automatic setpoint of 80% of normal speed.
The PU1DR is the most popular version, already extensively used in South African industry. This has a DIN rectangular package with universal power supply and relay output.
The PU1TR is a basically the same device in a 30mm tubular package.
The PU1TZ is a two-wire device in a 30mm tubular package.
Overspeed Monitoring:
There is only a modular control unit to monitor either overspeed or underspeed as selected. The Moduslip works with any of the Synatel inductive proximity sensors.
Stopped Motion Sensor:
For direct drives, eg chain or gear, we can monitor for breakage rather than slippage by using the SU1MZ, which like the PU1TZ is a two-wire device in a 30mm tubular package.
There is also a modular control unit to do a similar job, Modustop, for use with any of the Synatel inductive proximity sensors.
Speed Mounting Accessory:
Mounting of speed sensors has always been a major problem. A rotating target has to be found, a mounting bracket designed, and a suitable guard structure erected.
Synatel’s Whirligig does it all in one, requiring only a threaded axial attachment to the shaft to be monitored. The unit incorporates a target to produce 1, 2, 4 or 8 pulses per revolution, according to requirements. The Whirligig is available in two versions, a standard one in high impact plastic, and a heavy duty unit in stainless steel. The whirligig works with all the above sensors, plus any DIN or M30 or M18 proximity switch.
Conveyor Alignment:
We have various methods to detect belt misalignment. CBS2 is an electro-mechanical system using mercury-free tilt switches, one each side of the belt. These are mounted inside roller sensors, so are unaffected by continuous activation. The system provides two signals, an alarm at 15º inclination, and a trip at 30º inclination. The unit can connect directly to a PLC, or can be used with one of the monitors below.
An optional version incorporates a belt rip detection system.
Another option is the Touchswitch with a hardened stainless steel sensing face, which gives an instantaneous signal when contacted by the belt.
We can also use the Binswitch, a cousin to the speed monitors above, based on capacitive proximity sensing, being non-contact devices available in 2-wire or relay versions.
Bearing Temperature Monitoring:
The WDB series is a very clever idea that requires no special installation. The unit, which incorporates a grease nipple, simply replaces the standard grease nipple with an assembly that includes temperature sensing.
Two versions are available. The PT100 provides continuous temperature measurement allowing external monitoring and setpoint selection.
The PTC and NTC versions use thermistors as a solid state switch. These come with a range of fixed setpoints, typically 80ºC.
Monitoring Systems:
While the above sensors can be connected to a variety of monitoring systems, we include a range of dedicated systems to make up a complete package:
CBS2V0A:
This is a simple controller dedicated to the CBS2 electro-mechanical switches above.
400 Series:
This consists of a range of similar monitors with different applications:
The B400 Elite is a simple low-cost belt alignment monitor, designed to interface with the Touchswitch and Binswitch sensors.
The T400 Elite is a bearing temperature monitoring system, designed to interface with the WDB-PTC sensors.
The X400 Alarmswitch is a general purpose alarm system for a single machine, typically monitoring a mix of speed, alignment and level switches.
Watchdog Elite:
This is a multi-function conveyor hazard monitor designed to work with speed, alignment, bearing temperature and blockage sensors to protect a single conveyor.
T500 Elite Hotbus:
This is a comprehensive distributed system. The central control unit can communicate with higher systems using Ethernet, Modbus or Devicenet. Field boxes include continuous temperature sensing inputs for bearing temperature, or of the range of speed, alignment or blockage sensors available, allowing up to 256 inputs to be monitored.
Blockage Detection:
Various systems are available:
The simple tilt switch will activate when the product moves the switch off the vertical. It is suitable for most granular materials.
The Binswitch is a capacitive proxy which can detect the presence of materials.
Digimatic is a very well known capacitance e sensor with a wide range of packaging and probes, coupled to a high degree of sensitivity, a digital indication, and an automated setting system, It is suitable for most products, whether granular, powders, mud or liquids. The standard system is top or side mounted, with rigid or flexible probes. A remote version is available for high vibration or high temperature applications. A flush version is suitable for applications where the conventional probe might be susceptible to damage.
