Flange Sizes

Instrument people often having difficulty in getting data on flange sizes. The common need is to be able to identify the flange on an instrument nozzle so that the correct matching instrument can be ordered.

While not providing sufficient information to manufacture a flange, the following data should enable most flanges to be identified. Flanges are specified by means of a standard specification, a nominal pipe size, and a pressure rating, class or table.

The commonest flange specifications found are:
ANSI B16.5, the American standard, common in petrochemical plant.
SABS1123/BS4504/DIN is the main industrial specification. SABS is the simplest, and expresses tables in kPa ratings. For simplicity, we are using the BS/DIN bar ratings followed by the SABS rating.
BS10 is the old imperial standard, still common in older plant.
